    Safe and Accepting schools: high level EDI School board supports - Shelley Montgomery & Lisa Cameron

    Lisa Cameron is the Ottawa Catholic School Board’s Principal of Safe, Accepting, and Inclusive Schools. She has been in education for 23 years, including 3 years as a Department Head, 10 years as a High School Vice-Principal, and is now in her fifth year as a High School Principal.  Shelley has been Superintendent of Education with the Ottawa Catholic School Board (for 3 years) with responsibilities for the Elementary Student Success, Early Years, Literacy K-12, the virtual elementary school and two Family of Schools.  Shelley was a principal for 10 years at the Elementary division and has worked for two different school boards.  Prior to being Superintendent of Elementary Student Success, Shelley was responsible for the Equity Portfolio and played a key role in facilitating the development of the OCSB’s equity three year plan and Declaration for People of African Decent.

    School to the prison pipeline - Hon. Marvin Zuker

    Marvin Zuker was a Justice in the Ontario Court of Justice from 1978 until his retirement in 2016. He has been a lecturer at Centennial College and Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. Marvin holds the rank of Associate Professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education where he has taught Education Law for the past 40 years. Marvin is the author and co-author of many books including The Law is NOT for Women with June Callwood, The Law is NOT for Kids with Ned Lecic, Education Law, the Childrens Law Handbook, and Inspiring The Future: The New Teacher's Guide to the Law, the latter three published by Thomson Reuters. Marvin titles his presentation, LOST OPPORTUNITIES - THE SCHOOL TO THE PRISON PIPELINE.

    As part of the Equitable Leadership Network's event, Dr. Chris Vieler-Porter gave a talk entitled Disparities by design: implications for institutions which answered the question of whether the under-representation of BAME people in leadership in education is a matter of chance, coincidence, or design.
