What Is ‘Critical’ in Educational Leadership Today?

This presentation will be divided into two parts. Part One will identify and explain 3 major critical aspects in educational leadership today: a. Proper understanding of democracy and its application to leadership, beyond the populism of neoliberalism; b. The problems with classical liberalism that has eventually led to neoliberalism and hence the reproduction of colonial attitudes and practices; c. The dangers that neoliberalism poses to critical democratic leadership. Part Two will focus on an alternative consistent with anti-colonial and anti-oppressive stance that builds on possibilities, and encourages risk taking and courage, and the importance of vulnerability and humility as well as the ethics of subversion.
